Big Girl Panties Diaries: Entry #45 Finding Your Edge (Without Falling Off It)

Last night I did the most challenging hot yoga session of my life. One amazing instructor, one packed, sweaty room — and about thirty of us puddled on our mats, pushing ourselves right up to our edge.

It’s wild how the right voice, the right cue, can flip a switch. The way she guided us, it all just clicked. My pigeon pose sank deeper than ever. My warrior stances felt solid and unshakeable. And my half-moon? Flying high.

Of course, there was also that moment when sweat poured into my eyes, my mat turned into a slip ‘n slide, and I wondered if this counted as cardio and a baptism.

That’s the edge. It’s not about showing off — it’s about exploring that spot where you feel the tug, the tremor, the oof — and breathing into it instead of backing away. It’s the balance of effort and ease.

And honestly? I walked out drenched, sore, and feeling more alive than I had all week.

But it’s not just a mat thing, is it? Finding your edge shows up everywhere:

  • Taking on the project that scares you a little.

  • Saying the thing you’ve been swallowing.

  • Trusting that you can do hard things — but also knowing when to rest.

Funny how in life, we sometimes perform our edge — showing off how ‘busy’ or ‘stretched’ we are — when really we’re just spinning in the same place.

The truth is: your edge is yours alone. And it changes. Some days it’s a bold leap. Other days it’s a nap. Both count.

Finding your edge is equal parts courage and trust — courage to lean in, trust that you won’t snap.

Last night, right in the middle of half-moon pose, my mind tried to negotiate: “Maybe back off. Maybe this is enough.” And then my breath reminded me: Ease lives inside the effort. So I let go of the chatter and leaned in just a little more.

Next time you feel yourself wobble at your edge — on the mat or off — pause. Breathe into it. Ask: What can I let go of right now? There’s always something.

And if you fall out of half-moon face-first into your neighbor’s mat? Congratulations — you found your edge and your humility.

Big Girl Panties Rule: Life’s edges aren’t here to break you — they’re here to show you how bendy you really are. Find your edge. Breathe. Let something go. Repeat.

So… where’s your edge today? When was the last time you surprised yourself by leaning in just enough?
